To enhance the understanding of China's diplomacy by people at home and abroad, China's Foreign Affairs, written by various departments of the Foreign Ministry and edited by its Department of Policy Planning, is published annually by the World Affairs Press and distributed internationally. China's Foreign Affairs strives to accurately and comprehensively present China's foreign policies and its latest perspectives on the evolving international situation, and to give a systematic and full elaboration on China's external relations in the past year. The 2005 edition of China's Foreign Affairs focuses mainly on the country's diplomatic activities in 2004 with a few sections providing background information on certain historical events. An unabridged English version is also published to cater to the needs of domestic and foreign readers. The 2005 edition of China's Foreign Affairs has seven chapters. Chapters l and 2 outline the 2004 international situation as China sees it and present a summary of China's diplomatic work in the year. Chapter 3 describes the state of relations between China and countries having diplomatic ties with it in 2004. The countries are listed in alphabetic order. Chapter 4 briefs on China's interactions with international and regional organizations in 2004 and its positions and views on the relevant issues. Chapter 5 presents China's diplomatic work in the area of international treaties and law in 2004. Chapter 6 presents China's diplomatic work in the area of the press and information in 2004. Chapter 7 presents China's diplomatic work in consular affairs in 2004. The book also includes Chronicle of China's Major Diplomatic Activities in 2004 and Important Diplomatic Documents in 2004. The book's appendixes include the Foreign Ministry's organizational structure and the list of its leading officials in 2004, the list of countries having diplomatic relations with China, with dates of establishment of diplomatic ties and names of Chinese ambassadors in 2004, the list of China's permanent missions to the UN, their venues and the permanent representatives in 2004,the list of consular missions of China and foreign countries, the list of countries with visa exemption agreements with China, the list of countries with consular conventions (agreements) with China, the list of international treaties on which China took actions in 2004, the list of major bilaterial treaties signed between China and foreign countries in 2004, the table showing trade volumes between China and countries having diplomatic ties with it, and the table on overseas students received by China from countries having diplomatic ties with it in 2004.
